I live in Macedonia (small country in south of Serbia and north of Greece), in the northwestern part in small town called Tetovo but here on this site we speak on serbo-croatian language
i can tell you that this is indeed very nice plant forum, real treasure of knowledge regarding plants and their care. the topics usually have the Latin name of the plants so if you like you can ask or share something from your gardening experience (you are our first member from England

I saw your garden on flickr and I had to open this topic, "Garden in the shade" to show others different possibilities of planting in these conditions. This is also an inspiration to us.

I was commented Your succulents (aeonium, echeverias...), do You put them out of garden over winter ? Also, Your brugmansia is beautiful, how old is it ? I hope that You put it inside over winter, too?
We talked, also, about english gardens and wooden walls around them. Very good and nice solution for saving privacy.

Thanks everyone for making me so welcome. Again. I apologise for not speaking your language and I thank you for taking the trouble to reply to me in English. I am very impressed by your gardens and your love of plants.
I was intrigued by the numbers of visitors to my Flickr photographs from this website which is why I found this site.
I've found that it is possible to grow tropical or exotic plants here in England and to mix them with more hardy plants like ferns etc.
Wooden walls? Yes, the English are quite private people! For instance, my garden at the front of the house is just grass but I like to be in the garden at the back of the house in privacy.
I know very little about where you live. I think it has mountains, cold winters and hot summers? I know Greece and Turkey and think the climate is similar but with colder winters.
I can't easily find my way round this website because of my language problem - but will try.
I would be interested to know what plants you can grow in your countries.

Hi, emagen. Want to welcome you to this forum. Climate here is continental, mediterenian in coastal region of Croatia and Montenegro, and there u can breed some tropical plants outdoor. As u have noticed in Turkey they grow bananas outside which is impossible in our climate. Well, there are some hybrids u can.
Are u interested in trees, perenials, shrubs, ferns that live in this climate?
Are u maybe considering it in moving here?
Saw that Rodhodendron ponticum is quite a problem in your country, spreeding like crazy and considered a weed. Here, it is really difficult to grow due to its requerement of acidic soil, and can be grown only in pots. And can withstand tempratures here without any kind of protection during winter.
Our country has mixed climate. In Vojvodina plaines is typical continental. Warm,
sommers. Cold winters with little snow. And our mountain region has different climate. More snow during winter. Not so hot summers etc.

Hajde da obnovimo malo ovu temu
Posto se uskoro selim u stan koji ima terasu na severnoj strani potpuno bez direktnog sunca, zanima me sta sve mogu da posadim na njoj a da lepo cveta. Volela bih da svi koji znaju nesto o tome napisu svoje misljenje. Bas bi mi znacilo PUNO!
Recimo da li moze fisalis ili ladolez, kadifa...recite mi bilo sta sto moze?

Krokozmija, kukurek, digitalis, astrancia, moze i echinacea, rubeckia, al ne potpuna senka, lukovice (krokusi, spanski zvoncici - Endymion non-scriptum), Pulmonaria, aukuba, hosta, hortenzija, brsljen, paprati.
a za malo vise truda i kamelija, rododendron, pieris.
Kao pokrivac tla kod nas u senku ide Sagina subulata, Pachisandra terminalis. Onda mogu Clematisi.
Postoje i ruze koje tolerisu senku, ne znam koje.

Ima li neko ideju šta bih mogla da zasadim u male glinene saksije koje se kače na zid, znate na šta mislim...? Uglavnom, poenta je da ne može mnogo zemlje da stane u njih, da voda brzo ispari jer su male, a saksije se nalaze u hladu. Dodatno otežavajuća stvar je to što se cela priča odigrava na placu tako da mogu da se zalivaju vikendom. Znači, treba mi nešto čemu ne treba mnogo zemlje ni vlage a uspeva u hladu. Nešto kao čuvarkuća i sl. ali za hlad? Ima li neko ideju? Bila bih zahvalna!!!! Veoma!!!

Pozdrav svima
Imam dugačku i usku terasu u senci, okačila bih žardinjere sa nekim visećim biljkama na ogradi.. E sad, od svih pomenutih biljaka najviše bi mi odgovarale fuksije, one mogu biti višegodišnje i lepo vise pa se i vide od dole jer mi je terasa na spratu. Ima li neko možda ideju za možda neku drugu viseću biljčicu koja voli hlad, a da bude višegodišnja?
Inače, tu imam i kameliju, rododendron, hortenziju i brugmansiju. Volim cvetnice, pogotovo mirišljave, ali nisam uspela da nađem ništa što bi ispunilo sve uslove...

da uzmeš, možda, viseće Begonije, Bacopu i još mi Bršljan pade na pamet. To Englezi imaju po svojim prozorima obavezno i između koji cvijet ko ima , ko nema ostavi bršljan i on svake godine raste i bude sve bolji i ljepši!

Nisam bas sigurna da sam shvatila zasto ti je bitno da je visegodisnja?! Fuksije ti ne mogu prezimeti u saksiji napolju. One bi morale da se unesu u kucu ili da se posade u basti. Begonije, takodje, moras da uneses unutra pre mrazeva.
Ako si zamislila nesto sto ne moras ni da unosis, onda brsljen, definitivno! Pa iskombinuj sa nekim jednogodisnjim impatiensom ili ...

Donekle se slazem za fuksije, ali gomoljaste begonije se na kraju vegetacije zasusuju i preko zime se samo cuva gomolj, tako da ne zauzimaju puno mesta i ne traze neke posebne uslove... A brsljen svakako...Mislim da bi lepo izgledala i sarenolisna vinka(kod mene su neki primerci u toku godine rasli i preko tri metra, bukvalno sa balkona prvog sprata do zemlje, ali su bile posadjene u saksije zapremine oko 20 litara), sad one jesu visegodisnje, ali ne znam da li u saksijama/zardinjerama mogu da prezime na balkonu, ja sam moje unosio u podrum.
